| The above competition was as usual, up to the high standard expected of the AMA Ju-Jitsu Technical & Advisory Committee, who organised the tournament, under the chairmanship of Colin Whitaker, President of the AMA WCJJO. 87 children took part from 10 different dubs from around the country, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all, including a full house of spectators. Twelve divisions, boys and girls aged between 7years and under 16, were contested, for 1st 2nd and 3rd places, with 4 special awards and trophies. The sportsmanship was excellent, no disqualifications or injuries, only a few minor bumps and bruises. The standard of ability was very good, with white belts to brown belts taking part, fought to World Council of Ju-Jitsu Organisations ground fighting rules. The girls in particular, 30 of them were of a general good standard of ability and some of their bouts had people on their feet, shouting encouragement. That's not to say the boys sections were of any lesser standard, they were also good fighters and a "well done to all”, Is the message from the referees judges and officials who controlled the bouts on the day. The bouts consisted of 1 two minute rounds and if drawn, a 1 minute extension followed by a final 30 seconds if required. (Rules available from AMA HQ via Colin Whitaker, who organised the event). The trophies for these events were of an extremely high quality. A big THANK YOU to the officials, the St Johns Ambulance, the AMA and all those who helped and supported the event and we look forward to the next junior grappling event, which will be held In Hull East Yorkshire in 2006.
