AA.M.A JUNIOR INVITATION SPORT JU-JITSU TOURNAMENT, HOSTED BY INTERNATIONAL ATEMI JU-JITSU AT DUNSTABLE LEISURE CENTRE ON 26/06/05 This, the fifth junior invitation sport ju-jitsu (WCJJO) tournament and the third hosted by International Atemi Jujitsu, was well supported by clubs from Leeds, Dewsbury, Hull, Roberttown, Luton & Dunstable, London and Diss. There were ten fight categories in all, supported by fifty seven fighters aged between 7 to 15; four girls groups and six boys. The competition began at 12.15pm and ran smoothly throughout the day. A minor elbow injury was sustained by one of the female competitors in the Group 2 category but, apart from this, the day was virtually incident free. The spectators, a larger crowd than usual, were once again treated to some skilful and spectacular performances. As with the previous tournament each category was decided on a ‘round-robin’ principle, thus ensuring that all competitors had at least 2 to 3 fights each. Once again the calibre of sportsmanship, skill and courage displayed by competitors was of the highest level. Special mention for: the Peewees – always popular with the crowd Boys Groups 1&2 – for some close fought determined performances, particularly from those who narrowly missed out on the medals. A well-organised and memorable day enjoyed by all that attended. Thanks to Bob Cowan, IAJJ chief instructor and AMA Exec, Colin Whitaker, President AMA/WCJJO and his team of referees and judges. Thanks also to the St. John’s Ambulance, table officials and helpers who all gave up their time voluntarily and all the friends and families who came to support the fighters and their clubs. All proceeds went to the AMA/WCJJO England Sport Jujitsu Team fighting fund.
