2nd IAJJ Invitation Junior Sport Jujitsu Competition 14/11/04

This, the fourth junior invitation sport ju-jitsu (WCJJO) tournament, and the second hosted by us, was well supported by clubs from Leeds, Hull, Roberttown, Luton, Dunstable and London.

There were nine fight categories in all, supported by fifty three fighters aged between 7 to under 15; three girls groups and six boys.

After the ‘Remembrance Day’ two minutes silence, respectfully observed by all present, the competition began at 11.45am. and ran smoothly throughout the day with the exception of a neck injury sustained by one fighter in the girls Middleweight category. Fortunately it wasn’t serious and she was released from hospital 48 hours later.

As usual, those present were treated to some spirited and courageous performances. Each category was decided on a ‘round-robin’ principle, which ensured that all competitors had at least 3 fights each.

Once again the sportsmanship displayed by competitors, referees, judges and table officials was of the highest calibre.

Special mention for:
the Peewees - for some exciting and close fought contests
the Middleweight Boys - for their never-say-die attitude
the Middleweight Girls - for their courageous fighting spirit

A well-organised and memorable event enjoyed by all that attended.

Thanks to Bob Cowan, IAJJ chief instructor and AMA Exec, and Colin Whitaker, President AMA/WCJJO and his team.

Thanks also to the St. John’s Ambulance, the referees, judges, table officials and helpers who all gave up their time voluntarily and all the friends and families who came to support the fighters and their clubs.
