| This, the third junior invitation AMA Sport Ju-jitsu Tournament, was the first national competition hosted by us and was well supported by clubs from Leeds, Hull and Robertown. After last years successful club competition we were all looking forward to hosting this event and, as our friends from up north learned, you have to get up pretty early to make the journey. Personally, and Im sure that our fighters and supporters would agree, for once it was great not having to get up before the birds on a Sunday morning! There were ten fight categories in all supported by fifty seven fighters aged between 7 to 14; 4 girls groups and 6 boys; all competing for gold, silver, or bronze medals. (for results click here) As usual, all the children competed well and those present were treated to some spirited and gutsy performances. Injuries were minor and the sportsmanship displayed by competitors, referees, judges and table officials was excellent. Im sure that everyone who attended was impressed by Tashi Cowans pre-tournament planning which resulted in an incident free, well run competition, that finished ahead of schedule at 2.30pm. Thanks to Bob Cowan, IAJJ chief instructor and AMA Exec, and Colin Whitaker, AMA/WCJJO President and his team. Thanks also to the St. Johns Ambulance, the referees, judges, table officials and all the friends and families who came to support the fighters and their clubs. All proceeds went to the AMA/WCJJO England Sport Jujitsu Team fighting fund competing in the Toronto World Championships in June. |
