| Junior Sport Jujitsu Competition |
Dear Parents, Ive been invited to host a national Sport Jujitsu competition and, although keen to do so, I need to be assured that the club can organise such an event and that it is well supported by competitors, spectators and you the parents. By way of experiment, I plan to hold a competition at Dunstable leisure centre on Sunday 22nd June for our junior students. At this stage I can confirm the following:
Im sure that students already training at our Sport Jujitsu sessions will be only to eager to compete, but what about those who dont attend the sessions? You or your child may have reservations. Perhaps you consider that Sport Jujitsu is too rough, or that there is a risk of injury, maybe your child has always wanted to have a go but lacks the confidence. Let me assure you that the rules dictate safety. Im not going to deny that accidents happen, but they do in any contact sport and the skills learned compliment jujitsus self defence skills. As for confidence, the competitors will be from our clubs; familiar surroundings and familiar faces make the whole experience less intimidating. If you decide to allow your son/daughter to compete then, although not compulsory, they should start attending the Sport Jujitsu sessions to learn the rules and some of the skills. My more experienced students will act as referees and judges on the day, but well also need timekeepers and score sheet handlers tasks normally undertaken by parents. If you have any questions or concerns, then please dont hesitate to contact me either by phone, or at any of our dojos. Yours in the martial arts, Tashi Bob Cowan |
