Volume 3 Issue 4 - Early May 2002

Sensei Kevin Brown Gradings

Sensei Kevin recently conducted his first club gradings since obtaining his own dan grade last December. Congratulations to Anthony, Francis and Paul on achieving their red belt.

They say that the hardest grades for a martial arts student is the first belt and the black belt. Remind me and I'll ask them what they think about that statement in about 7 years!

Sport Jujitsu Update

The recent introduction of an adult training session alongside the already established Saturday evening junior session, seems to be working sucessfully. Until Hockwell Ring is re-established or an alternative venue is found adults wishing to compete must use this venue to train.

Seni 2002

Europe's premier martial arts exhibition Seni 2002 recently took place at the NEC exhibition centre Birmingham. For the few of us who attended it was a day of martial arts overload! The chance to see some martial art demonstrations and spend loadsa money on useless bits of kit. Ask Richard about his 1" punch training aid - a metal rod with a metal doughnut on the end, or John Cann about the telescopic nunchukas that aren't quite so telescopic any more. My pair still work, but for how long I wonder?

We saw some cracking (and not so cracking) martial arts demonstrations with the highlight of the day being the Capoeira demo - awesome!
